artist biography
Carl (Calle) Vilhelm Johansson was born March 12, 1910 in Rydaholm , Jönköping. He was a Swedish painter.
Johansson was the son of the mason Axel Johansson and Emilia Andersson and from 1942 married fellow artist Majken Evelina Eklund Johansson studied at Valand's målarskola (painting school) in Gothenburg from 1937 to 1938 and during study trips to France, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Luxembourg between 1938 and 1951.
He participated in group exhibitions in several galleries in Småland, the exhibition Nutida småländsk konst (Contemporary Småland Art) in Jönköping in 1952, in Gothenburg 1942 at God Konst (Good Art), at Olsen's konstsalong in Gothenburg and the Göteborgs konstförening (Gothenburg Art Association). Separately or together with his wife, he exhibited in Linköping, and other cities in Sweden.
Johansson painted still lifes, figure compositions, landscapes and abstract works in oil, tempera or gouache. Johansson is represented at Jönköping Museum and Smålands Konstarkiv, Värnamo.
He passed away a the age of 79 on March 19, 1989 in Värnamo.
