artist biography 
Ivar Morsing was born in 1919 in Ängelholm, Sweden. 

Morsing grew up in an artist environment - his father was noted Swedish artist Leopold Morsing (1887-1971). Morsing began his formal art education at the summer schools held by Swedish designer and artist Edvin Ollers. He studied decorative arts, design, life drawing, and illustration at Gösta and Irma Bergh's Technical School of Advertising between 1940-1941. He then studied at the painting school of Modernist painter Isaac Grünewald. Morsing travelled frequently with study including extending time spent in Denmark, France and Italy. Morsing visited Tunisia in 1950 and Paris in 1953, before embarking on a motorcycle tour of Portugal, Spain and Morocco in 1954. In the late 1960's he traveled to the United States and Central America.

Throughout his long career Morsing exhibited extensively. His debut exhibition was in 1946 at Elsa Lindström's ‘Modern konst i hemmiljö’ (Modern art in the home) iin Stockholm. Select other exhibitions included again at Modern konst i hemmiljö in 1952, 1961 Konstnärshuset, 1967 Gallery Hedenius,  and 1971 Färg och Form (Colour and Form). He was the recipient of numerous scholarships including the Stockholm City Cultural Prize in 1972, National Artist's Scholarship in 1973-1974 and 1978, and the Kalmar Cultural Prize in 1976.

He produced many public art pieces including ones in Skövde Folkskolor, Wasabröd Filipstad, Swedish Embassies in Spain, China and Australia, Swedish Siemens Office in Stockholm, Transcodan AG Lensahn and Wasa AG Celle Germany, Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta and New York, USA.

Morsing is represented in public collections in Sweden including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum and Jönköping Museum.

Ivar Morsing passed away on 5th December 2009, aged 90.
