artist biography
Fritz Erland Jacob Ullman was born January 20, 1917 in Norrköping. He was a Swedish painter and illustrator.
He studied for a year at the Tekniska skolans evening classes, at the Académie Colarossi in Paris in 1949 and at Grünewald's Målarskola (painting school) in Stockholm in the early 1950s. He made a longer study trip to Spain 1954 to 1955. Ullman originally worked as an illustrator working for various advertising companies and made his debut as an artist with a solo exhibition at Konstnärshuset in 1959. He has participated in the Sveriges allmänna konstförenings (Swedish General Art Association) Spring Art salons at Liljevalchs konsthall and Liljevalchs Stockholmssalonger. Ullman’s favourite subject matter were landscapes around Sweden and Spain, executed in oil. Ullman was the nephew of renowned Swedish artist Sigfrid Ullman (1886-1960).
Ullman passed away at the age of 84 on April 21, 2001 in Hässelby.
