artist biography
Sven Lignell was a Swedish painter born in 1927.
Lignell studied at Konstindustriskolan (School of Art and Design) in Gothenburg, and at the Valands Målarskola (Art School) in Gothenburg under artists Hjalmar Eldh, Nils Wedel and Nils Nilsson.
He was particularly active in the 1950s and 1960s. He exhibited at galleries in Stockholm, Gothenburg & Linköping. Lignell painted still lifes, landscapes and portraits with a stylised, cubist influence. He worked in oil as well as mixed media. Lignell’s work is held is the collections of the City of Stockholm, the City of Gothenburg and the Galleria del Art moderna, Madrid.
