artist biography
Max Gregor Carlsson was a Swedish artist born in Malmö in 1914.

He studied at the Skåne painting school (Skånska Måalarskolan) from 1945-46 and in 1953 travelled to Paris to study under the French painter, sculptor, teacher and writer André Lhote.  Between 1950 and 1954 he undertook study trips to France and Spain.

Carlsson exhibited widely during the 1950s and 60s and is best known for his bold and impasto works - portraits, interiors and still lifes. Selected exhibitions include solo shows at   Forum Hall Malmö in 1951, Limhamns Konstförening in 1959, SDS Hall in 1956. Carlsson exhibited in many group exhibitions including Ystads Museum in 1959, Gruup 5,  Hörby Konstförening 1953, Sveriges Allmänna Konstförening between 1956 and 1967, the Stockholm Salon (Stockholmssalongen) from 1958,  and the Ängelholms Konstförening in 1964.

In 1965 Carlsson was awarded the Skåne Art Association (Skånes Konstförenings Stipendiat) scholarship. Examples of the artist’s works are held in the collections of the Malmö Museum, Norrköping city collection, the Landskrona Konsthall and the Eskilstuna Art Museum.

Carlsson passed away in 1996, aged 82.
