artist bio
Sven Richard Johansson was a Swedish painter born on November 16, 1911 in Halmstad.
Johnasson studied fine art at Konsthögskolan and began painting in 1931. In 1933 and 1934 he studied under noted Swedish artist Waldemar Lorentzon (1899-1984). From 1946 he devoted himself entirely to his art. During the 1950s he took painting study trips to the Netherlands, France and Spain.
He had solo shows including shows in Halmstad between 1946 to 1949, and in 1953 alongside fellow Swedes A. Jonson, T. Olsson and O. Lisper. From 1951 he regularly participated in the Halland Art Association's annual exhibitions.
Johansson’s subject matter included abstract, landscape, interiors, cityscape, still life and figurative works in oil, gouache, pastel or watercolour, with a strong influence of Cubism and a simplified colour palette.
Johansson passed away in 1986 at age 75.
