artist biography
Bengt Ragnar Eklund was born October 1, 1916 in Gävle. He was a Swedish artist and illustrator.

Eklund studied at Edvin Oller's målarskola (painting school) in Stockholm in 1943 and at Otte Sköld's målarskola in 1944. He took private study trips to France and Italy. 

He had a number of solo exhibitions in Gävle, and beginning in 1938 regularly exhibited in participated in the Gävleborgsgruppens utställningar (Gävleborg Group's exhibitions). Eklund painted street scenes, interiors and landscapes in oil, pastel or gouache. In addition to his fine art he also produced book illustrations and stage set designs. Among his larger public works was a large wall painting in tempera in the dining room of the Gävle hamnförvaltning (Gävle Harbor Administration). Examples of Eklund’s work are held at the Gävle Museum and the Hudiksvall Museum.

He passed away at the age of 72 on March 17, 1989 in Hille, Gävleborg.
