artist biography
Hans Fagerström was a Swedish artist and illustrator born on August 29, 1921 in Hagfors.
Fagerström studied at Anders Beckman's Advertising School in Stockholm 1944 to 1945, and then studied fine art under renowned Swedish painter Waldemar Lorentzon from 1946 to 1947. He was then Lorentzon’s assistant in decorative paintings in Ryssby church in Småland in 1951. Fagerström produced drawings in pencil and small compositions, often with an abstract style, in oil, gouache and pastel. He also produced linocut prints.
Select exhibitions include a show alongside Olle Lisper in Sala in 1947, Halländska konstnärers' Autumn Salons in Halmstad annually from 1948 to 1952, 'Unga tecknare' ('Young Artists’) at the National Museum in Stockholm 1949 and 1950, the Föreningens för Kristen konst utställningar in 1951 and 1952 and in exhibitions in Falkenberg 1948 and Örebro 1950.
He created a number of public art pieces around Sweden - both sculptural works and paintings. Examples of his work are held in public collections at the National Museum in Stockholm and the Halland konstmuseum in Halmstad.
Fagerström passed away on April 26, 2000 in Halmstad at the age of 80.
