artist biography
Albert Eldh was born August 17, 1878 in Film, Uppland. He was a Swedish painter, graphic artist and art educator.

He was the son of the master blacksmith Jan Petter Eldh and Maria Wickman and in1904 married Alice Ottilia Henriksson. His son was the  and father of Gunnar Eldh (1909-1983). He was the brother of sculptor Carl Eldh (1873-1954).

Eldh studied at the Tekniska skolan (Technical School) in Uppsala from 1903 to 1905, with Carl Wilhelmson at Valand's art school between 1906 and 1908, and at the Konstnärsförbundets skola (Artists' Association's school) in Stockholm. He took private during study trips to France, the Netherlands and Germany.

Eldh had solo exhibitions in Stockholm and Gothenburg. He is best known for his landscapes from the west coast of Sweden, of Upland, and cityscape and harbour scenes from Gothenburg.

In addition to his fine art Eldh was periodically active as a draftsman at architectural offices and decoration companies before he was employed as a teacher at the  Slöjdföreningens skola (Handicraft Association's school) in Gothenburg in from 1909 to 1939. He produced a large body of public art including over two hundred designs for stained glass for churches around Sweden. He was also active in decorating private homes, including Axel Carlanderspatrician villa in Gothenburg. He produced art for a number of book covers and illustrations, including Sigurd Dahllöf's Sagor och äventyr and the book Göteborgsbilder.

Eldh passed away at the age of 77 on November 30, 1955 in Gothenburg.
