artist biography
John Waldemar Nyström was born January 25, 1903 in Ludvika parish in Kopparberg county. He was a Swedish artist and illustrator.
After a period of employment as a draftsman, he studied at Professor Richter's art school in Dresden 1922 and 1923. He took a number of study trips to Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Norway and Denmark.
Nyström had solo exhibitions at Galerie Moderne in Stockholm in 1952 and in several Swedish rural towns. He participated in group exhibitions arranged by the Sveriges allmänna konstförening (Swedish General Art Association) and the Dalarnas konstförening (Dalarna Art Association).
He worked in oil, pastel and watercolour and is best known for his portraits , marines, cityscapes, landscapes and genre off scenes around Sweden and for his travels abroad. In addition to his fine art he produced illustrations and covers for daily and weekly press as well as advertising illustrations.
Nyström passed away on November 22, 1957 in Skarpnäck, Stockholm.
