artist biography
Mauno Häkkinen was born in Helsinki in 1911. He was a Finnish painter.
Häkkinen studied at the Taideteollisessa keskuskoulussa (Central School of Art and Design) from 1926 to 1930, and then at the drawing school of the Suomen Taideyhdistyksen (Finnish Art Association) in 1935 and 1936. He made his exhibition debut in Finland in 1933. He continued to exhibit in Finland after his debut. He also he exhibited his work in Sweden in Denmark including shows in Stockholm in 1948, Copenhagen in 1949, and then later again Stockholm in 1976, and Upplands Väsby, Sweden in 1978.
He produced public art pieces including a mural in 1967 at Oy Alko Ab's Rajamäki factory. In 1947, Häkkinen received second prize in the WSOY drawing competition. He worked as a draftsman at the Bank of Finland’s (Suomen Pankki) banknote press from 1937-1939.
Häkkinen passed away in 1988.
