artist biography
Hans Voigt Steffensen was born on 6 February 1941 in Copenhagen. He is a Danish painter and print maker.

Steffensen grew up in Copenhagen and his early works from the 1960s to the mid-1970s were cityscape and landscape paintings of Copenhagen and Vendsyssel (the the northernmost region of Denmark and Jutland) with a strong influence from the Fauvists and the early German Expressionists. A trip to Eastern Europe in 1974 inspired his interest in dancing and folklore and his works expanded to include figurative paintings inspired by dance and costume.

Steffensen's debut exhibition was in 1965 and he has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout his career. His work has been exhibited in Denmark, and galleries around the world including shows in Oslo, Budapest, New York and Paris.

Examples of Steffensnen’s works are held in the public collections including the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen, the Fyens Stifts Museum, the Musée de Art in Friborg in Switzerland, the Kastrupgard collection, the Sonderjyllands Art Museum, the Museum Het Kruithuis Hertogenbosh in Holland and in the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
