artist bio
Sture Wikström was a Swedish painter and graphic artist born in 1921 in Stockholm.
Wikström studied at the Ecole Nationel Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris, and took study trips abroad travelling in Europe and Africa. He is best known for his still life and landscape paintings.
Wikström exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions. Select solo shows included ones Västerås in 1949 and Gamleby in Småland in 1956, Skövde, Borås, Lindesberg and Örebro in 1952 and in Uppsala in 1954.. He exhibited with French artists Georges Dayez and Marcel Mouly. Throughout his career he had many joint shows with his wide He has also had a large number of exhibitions together with his wife Ann-Marie Ekbom including shows in Västervik in 1951,1954, 1956, 1957, 1961 and 1962.
He produced a number of public art pieces including large stone mosaics at the Gävle Savings Bank, and at the courthouse and Town Hall in Västervik.
His work is represented in Museums in Jönköping, Kalmar and Hudiksvall, as well as numerous private collections.
Wikström passed away in 1993, at the age of 72.
