artist biography
Fredrik Elof Ulaner was born September 4, 1905 in Fagersta. He was a Swedish painter and print maker.

Ulaner studied at the Barths målarskola in Stockholm in 1936 and through self-study during trips to across Europe including time in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Ulaner had solo exhibitions at galleries in Hofors, Sollefteå, Södertälje, Norrtälje and at Galerie Acté and Galleri S:t Nikolaus in Stockholm. Alongside artist Carl-Eric Gustafsson he exhibited in Fagersta and he participated in the Sveriges allmänna konstförenings (Swedish General Art Association) spring salons at Liljevalch's art gallery, several Öland galleries at Ölands Skogsby during the 1950s and 1960s and Liljevalch's Stockholm salons in 1962, 1963 and 1964. He was an assistant to artist Armand Rossander when he made a public major wall mural in Gothenburg and with the creation of Rune Söderberg's altarpiece in Strömsnäsbruk's parish home in 1956. 

He painted figures, portraits and landscapes from Norrland, the Stockholm region and Öland. Examples are Ulaner’s work are held in pubic collections in Sweden including the  Stockholm City Museum, the City of Stockholm collection, Fagersta Municipality and Hofors Folkets hus.

Ulaner passed away at the age of 87 on October 12, 1992 in Stockholm.
