artist bio

Hans Kajtorp was born 20 February 1916 in Filipstad, Värmland. He was a Swedish artist and graphic designer.

Kajtorp studied art under Swedish artist Akke Kumlien (1884-1949) in 1941 and 1942 and in Nice, France in from 1947 and 1948.

He exhibited in both solo and group shows throughout his career. Select exhibitions include ones hosted by Värmland's art association's exhibitions between 1949 and 1955, and at the Ung vårsalong exhibition in Karlstad in 1952. He had solo exhibitions in Filipstad in 1947, 1949 and 1951, and in Karlstad at Värmland's museum in 1953 and 1954, Kristinehamn in 1961, Örebro in 1965, Stockholm and Copenhagen 1966.

Among his public works are some monumental paintings in the New School in Filipstad and a monumental painting for Rosendahl's factories.

Kajtorp is represented in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Värmland Museum, the Värmland County Council's collection as well as in Filipstad Municipality's art collection.

In 1994, a memorial exhibition was held in Storfors Folkets Hus.

He passed away on 16 September 1991.
