artist biography
Ester Linnéa Styrenius was a Swedish painter born on 8 June 1895 in Stanstorp, Malmö.
Styrenius came from a fashion background and ran a clothing boutique from 1919 to 1940 and painted as a hobby in her spare time. When her business ceased in 1940, she continued her hobby painting but decided undertake formal training. She studied painting at Villa Thalassa in Helsingborg and then continued with private painting studies under artist Torsten Hult in Höganäs. Following this she studied drawing and mosaic art with Erik Leijon and later under supervision of Arne Öberg in Helsingborg. Styrenius conducted self-studied trips to Denmark, Florence, Capri, Rome and Venice. She exhibited at Liljevalch's Stockholm Salon and group exhibitions arranged by the Helsingborg Art Association. Additionally Styrenius had solo shows in Stanstorp and Helsingborg. She painted stills lifes, portraits and landscape motifs from northwest Skåne and Italy.
Styrenius passed away aged 81 on April 4, 1977 in Helsingborg.
