artist biography
Ture John Gunnar Pettersson was born November 18, 1919 in Gothenburg. He was a Swedish painter and illustrator.
Pettersson was initially self taught but then formally studied art at the Valands målarskola (painting school) from 1957 to the late 1950s.
Select exhibitions included an exhibition of Gothenburg art in Härnösand in 1948, exhibitions organsised by Folkrörelsernas konstfrämjande in Borås and Eskilstuna in 1949 and in Ulricehamn in 1950. He exhibited work in the Svenskt och Franskt Måleri (Swedish and French Art) exhibition in Falkenberg in 1953. He had a three person show at Olsens Konstsalong in Gothenburg in 1949 aongside Georg Andersson and Bror Göransson.
Pettersson painted figurative works, still lifes and landscape scenes in oil as well as book covers and drawings for magazines.
He passed away in Gothenburg at the age of 80 on June 22, 2000.
