artist biography
Arne Erik Kilsby was born September 24, 1895 in Visnum, Värmland, He was a Swedish painter .
Kilsby studied art at Althin's målarskola (Painting School) in Stockholm in 1919 and at the Konsthögskolan (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) from1920 to 1922. He then continued his studies with French post-impressionist painter and designer Othon Friesz in Paris.
Kilsby made his debut in the Värmland Art Association's exhibition in Karlstad in 1927. The following year, he participated with 25 works in the artist group De 13 in an exhibition at Liljevalch's konsthall. Select solo exhibitions includes ones at Modern konst i hemmiljö he (Modern Art in Home Environment) in Stockholm in 1945 and at the Värmland Museum in 1931 and 1951.
He painted still lifes, portraits and intimate landscape scenes. Examples of Kilsby’s work are held in the public collections including the Värmland's Museum, the Statens konstråd (State Art Council) Södersjukhuset, and in St. Erik's and St. Göran's hospitals in Stockholm.
Kilsby passed away in 1989.
