artist biography
Ivar Ingemar Rönnberg was born January 31, 1912 in Rönnholm, Västerbotten. He was a Swedish painter, art teacher and craftsman.
As an artist, Rönnberg was self-taught and began his art career later in life after working as a decorative painter for several years.
Select solo and two//three artist shows include exhibitions in Umeå 1952 and 1955, Nordmaling 1952 (alongside Klas Engman and Bror Jonsson), 1958 (together with Åke Lagerborg) and 1959, Borlänge in 1953, Örnsköldsvik in 1954 and 1959, De Ungas salon in Stockholm 1955, Vännäs in Västerbotten 1957 (alongside Olof Nyberg), Hörnefors in Västerbotten in 1958 and Lycksele in 1960 (with Gudmund Forsman). He exhibited in many group exhibitions including ‘Yngre väs terbottenskonstnärer’ (Younger Västerbotten Artists) in Umeå and Skellefteå in 1951, Folkrörelsernas traveling art exhibition ’Konst i alla stila’ (Art in All Styles) 1956-57, ‘Nyårssalongen’ (New Year's Salon) in Örnsköldsvik 1958, a traveling exhibition of Västerbotten artists in 1960 as well as exhibitions organised by the art associations in Vännäs and Nordmaling.
He painted of figures, portraits, still lifes and Northern European landscapes mainly executed in pastel and to a lesser extent in oil, gouache or mosaic. Alongside his own creations, he worked as a drawing teacher at Samrealskolan in Nordmaling.
Examples of Rönnberg’s work are held in the collections at the Centrala yrkesskolan in Umeå and Hällnäs sanatorium in Västerbotten.
He passed away in Lögdeå at the age of 74 on March 2, 1986.
