artist biography
Erland Melanton was a Swedish painter and graphic artist born in Arkiva, Sweden on January 31, 1916.
Melanton studied Högre Konstindustriella Skolan in Stockholm from1938-1943 and became a teacher in watercoloir painting at the Konstfackskolan in 1946. Melanton studied mosaic techniques at the Art Academy in Ravenna ifrom 1946-1947 and mural painting at the Consulate Academy in Florence in 1949. He was a specialist teacher in painting at Konstfack 1949-1963, professor of painting at the Royal College of Art in Stockholm from May 1963.
His work is represented at the National Museum in Stockholm and he has a number of his public works - mosaic murals - around Sweden. Melanton was married to Swedish textile artist Kaisa Melanton.
Melanton passed away aged 52 in Viggbyholm, Sweden on September 30, 1968.
