artist bio
Alexander Girard was one of the key figures in post-war American design - working in textile design, industrial design, architecture and furniture design - ad creating colourful and endearing pieces in which his passion for folk art from Asia, South America and Eastern Europe can be definitely felt.
Gallery Midlandia carries a range of these half-decorative/half-toy dolls - originally created in Santa Fe in the 1950s for his own personal use - and are now currently being reproduced from the Girard estate by the Vitra Design Museum. Each with its own unique personality - these lovely sculptural pieces will enhance any environment.
