artist bio
John Ivar Berg was a Swedish artist born July 31, 1916 in Jonsberg, Östergötland.

Berg first studied at Edvin Ollers and Otte Sköld's painting schools, then continued at the Konsthögskolan (Academy of Fine Arts) in Stockholm from 1939 to 1944. He took study trips overseas to to France, Greece and Italy. Berg exhibited extensively - both in solo and group exhibitions - through his career. Select exhibitions include the artist group “Sju Unga” (Seven Young) in Malmö in 1942, "Progressive Art “,Skarpnäck 1950, Färg ohh Form in 1950, "Groupe Espace", Galeri Brinken 1954, "Aspect 61", "New Reality" 1949. Paris, 6th Salon Réalités Nouvelles 1951, and “Swedish Abstact” exhibition in the USA in 1955.

Among his public works is a 40 square metre mosaic in Solberga, a stucco lustro painting in Nybohov, an enamel painting at Gubbängens youth hotel and large abstract composition in glass and stone for Hudiksvall's Konsumrestaurant produced in 1949.

Berg is represented at Moderna Museet in Stockholm and also in Stockholm at the Waldemarsudde Museum.

John Ivar Berg passed away in 2003 at the age of 87.
