artist biography
Margareta Bille-Hofvander was born June 15, 1914 in Saltsjöbaden. She was a Swedish painter.
She studied at the Tekniska skolan in Stockholm between from 1932 to 1934, the Essemskolan in Malmö between 1947 and 1950, the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris in 1950 and at the Grafiskt Forum in Malmö from 1964 to 1966. She undertook numerous study trips around Europe.
Bille-Hofvander exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions. She had several solo shows in Malmö and regularly participated in group exhibitions with the Skånes konstförening (Art Association) beginning in 1952. Among her public works is a work for for Skånes Allmänna Restaurang AB in Malmö. Her body of work consists of abstract figurative compositions, still life and other abstract works.
Examples of Bille-Hofvander’s work are held in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and Malmö Museum.
Bille-Hofvander passed away on August 1, 2006, aged 92.
