artist biography
Jonas Ragnar Godin was born 20 March, 1911 in Kälarne, Jämtland. He was a Swedish painter.
Godin studied with Tor Bjurström and Sigfrid Ullman at the Valands målarskola (Painting School) in Gothenburg from 1934 to 1935, and with Marcel Gromaire in Paris in 1936.
He had a solo exhibition in Östersund in 1948, and exhibited alongside John Hedman and Rune Jansson at Galleri Brinken in Stockholm in 1951. He exhibited in many group exhibitions throughout his career in Jämtland and Östersund. He produced some public works including an oil painting titled ‘Traktatutväxning’ in Fredssalen at Storsjöteatern theatre in Östersund. He is best known for his abstracts, still lifes, interiors and landscapes from Östersund,
Godin passed away at the age of 79 on 8 July, 1990 in Östersund.
