artist biography
Sven (Svän) Fritiof Teodor Grandin was born on 30 May, 1906 in Borås. He was a Swedish artist.

Grandin first worked as a textile worker and sailor before moving on to art. As an artist he was primarily self taught. He took private study trips to Paris in 1938, 1939 and 1946.

His debut solo exhibition was Borås at the Sjuhäradsbygdens konstföreningen Höstsalong in 1936. He subsequently had solo exhibitions at galleries in his home city of Borås in 1937, 1944, 1948 and 1952, in Stockholm 1943 and in Gothenburg 1945. He exhibited his work regularly in group exhibitions including numerous shows in Borås, as well as Paris in 1939, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Skara in 1944 and Umeå in 1947.

Colour was his primary focus of expression. His initial works were  quite dark and heavy but became clearer and brighter around 1940 with blue, green, yellow and red as the dominant tones. Around 1946, his color palette darkened again and was often dominated by an indefinite gray-blue tone. Grandin  primarily worked with landscapes, compositions with one or more figures and still life works. Stylistically he was very influenced by the movement Gothenburg Colourism centred around artist Ivan Ivarson.

Grandin is represented at Borås Art Museum .

He passed away in 1982.
