artist biography
Svend Huber Bagger was born 22 October, 1900 in Königsberg. He was a Danish artist.
Bagger studied at Akademiet for de Tekniske Videnskaber from 1919, and then between 1921 and 1924 at the Det Kongelige Kunstakademi (The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts) in Copenhagen under Aksel Jørgensen.
He first exhibited in 1923 and regularly continued to do so until the 1950s when he focused his energies on teaching art, although he did continue to paint for himself.
Bagger painted scenes in and around his home in Hellerup or at the summer houses in Hundested and from 1949 in Nordby on Samsø. His foundation as a painter was naturalism and his strength was the immediate reproduction of a visual impression. He also painted portraits.
Bagger passed away in 1978.
A retrospective exhibition of his work was held recently (2025-26) at the Samsø Museum in Denmark.
