artist biography
Holger Fredrik Oijens was born November 7, 1907 in Gothenburg. He was a Swedish artist and poet.
Oijens was self taught as a painter but took a number of private study trips including one to Italy in 1956. Holger Oijens was married to the sculptor Elma Oijens (1907–1992) from 1931.
He painted landscapes and still lifes often with an abstract influence in oil, pastel and gouache. Oijens exhibited with his wife Elma at Ateljéteatern in Gothenburg in 1956. He exhibited participated in Stenungsund in 1958 and 1959, and subsequent group exhibitions. In addition to his fine art, Oijens has worked as a journalist and published plays for amateur theatre. As a poet he had eight books published including Presentation (Rundqvists Bokförlag) 1948, Ordlöst (Wordless) (Geber, Stockholm) 1949, Vilse i vind. Dikter (Lost in the Wind. Poems) (Bokgillet, Uppsala) 1965, and Dagnära (Rabén & Sjögren, Stockholm) 1972.
He passed away in 2004 at the age of 96.
