artist biography
Astri Cecilia Ingeborg Ekengren-Larsson was born 7 June 1898 in Överselö, Södermanland. She was a Swedish artist, craftswoman and silversmith.
She studied under Märta af Ekenstam in Malmö and from 1919 to 1926 ran an arts and crafts studio in Eskilstuna. Between 1926 and 1928 she lived in Moscow, where she studied art and handicraft at the museums. She later studied privately with Hugo Carlberg in Lund (1934–1938) and at the Skåne Painting School in Malmö in 1940.
Ekengren-Larsson held solo exhibitions in Linköping in 1946 and 1948, and in Hässleholm in 1950. She also took part in several exhibitions organised by the Östgöta Art Association.
Her work includes portraits, still lifes, and landscapes—sometimes with a dreamlike quality—as well as street scenes.
She passed away at the age of 91 on 26 April, 1990 in Vittsjö.
