artist biography
Anna Gunhild Elisabeth Küntzel was born on 22 June 1897 in Jörlanda , Bohuslän. She was a Swedish painter and illustrator.

She was the daughter of doctors Otto Tidholm and Hanna Andersson and married the publishing director Hans Küntzel in 1921. She studied at the Tekniska skolan in Stockholm from 1918 to 1920, then under Karl Aspelin in Lund 1923 and 1924 and as an extra student at the Konsthögskolan (Stockholm Academy of the Arts) from 1926 to 1930. Küntzel took study trips to Germany, Italy, Latvia, France and Spain. She participated in several group exhibitions, including ones with the Föreningen Svenska Konstnärinnor (Association of Swedish Artists), the Sveriges allmänna konstförening (Swedish General Art Association) and with the International Council of Women. She has solo exhibitions at the Modern Museet, Eskilstuna Art Museum , Örebro Concert Hall and at Galerie Moderne in Stockholm. Best known for her portraits, still lifes, children's studies, landscapes and book covers.

Examples of here work are held in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Eskilstuna konstmuseum and Stockholm City municipality.

Küntzel passed away in 1993.
