artist biography
Willem (Wim) Bosma was born in Amsterdam on September 21, 1902. He was a Dutch artist, graphic designer, monumental artist, and muralist.

He was primarily self-taught but did receive lessons from renowned Dutch artist and educator Piet van Wijngaerdt (1873-1964).

Bosma had a studio at Stadhouderskade 100 in Amsterdam. He painted and watercoloured landscapes, harbours, figures, railway viaducts, trains, boats, and airplanes in a constructive expressionist style. Among his most famous works are the stations and harbours from the 1930s, painted in a New Objectivity, realistic style. After 1945, other motifs entered his work alongside technical subjects. A favourite subject in his work were the African woman. Bosma was a lover of jazz music.

Examples of Bosma's work are held in the collections of the the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the Gemeentemuseum in Den Haag and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

Wim Bosma was the brother of Jan Johannes Bosma, landscape architect and designer of the Bijenpark (Bee Park) in Amsterdam.

He passed away in Amsterdam on December 28, 1985.
