artist biography
John Lennart Hedman, born September 28, 1913 in Vigge, Jämtland County, was a Swedish artist and illustrator.

Hedman studied at Otte Skölds målarskola (painting school) between 1933 and 1935 and under Hilding Linnqvist and Sven Erixson at the  Konsthögskolan (School of Art) in Stockholm between 1937 and 1943. In 1940 he married his wife, fellow artist Ulla Liljenberg-Hedman. He had a number of solo exhibitions during his career including shows at Galleri Brinken in Stockholm, and in Trollhättan alongside with Ragnar Godin and Rune Jansson. He showed in group exhibitions with Sweden's general art association -  Sveriges allmänna konstförening - and in the exhibition Norrlänningar (Northerners) at Liljevalchs Konsthall.  He painted landscapes, portraits, interiors from Värmland, snow scenes, still lifes, statues and motifs from the Nordic gods saga. Often his works had a subtle cubist influence to them. He received the 1944 Third Prize in a competition for the Östersund Higher General Teaching.

Hedman is represented at Östersund Museum and Örebro County Museum, as well as in Östersund Art Club and Sundsvall Art Association's collections.

Hedman passed away in 1994 aged 81.
