artist biography
Gustav Axel Georg Ganmar (Andersson) was born 11 September 1916 in Kolbäck. He was a Swedish sculptor.

Ganmar worked as a metal moulder at AB Kanthal in Hallstahammar, and then studied at Konstfack (University of Arts, Crafts and Design) in Stockholm and the Kungliga Konstakademien (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) in Stockholm. He worked mainly in stone, but also in bronze and wood, and animals were his most common motif.

He produced many large scale public works which include ’Mustang’, bronze (1953); ‘Lekande uttrar’ (Playing Otters), granite (1956), ‘Råbock’ , bronze (1960) at Klartorpsskolan, Stockholm; ‘Spejande uttrar ‘ (Peeping Otters), black granite (1962), Stockholm City Board of Education; ‘Lekande björnar’ (Playing Bears), granite (1966) at Västergården in Västerås; and ‘Rådjur’ (Roe Deer), bronze (1967), at Parkskolan in Hallstahammar.

Ganmar is represented in a number of public collections including work at Västerås Museum and the Örebro County Council.

He passed away on 17 February, 1979 in Sankt Matteus, Stockholm.
