artist biography
Kaj Gustaf-Adolf Olofsson Piehl was a Swedish painter, sculptor and illustrator born in 1921 in Ardre, Gotland County.

Piehl studied at Lena Börjesons skulpturskola (Sculpture School), Signe Barth's målarskola (Painting School) between 1939 and 1941, at Isaac Grünewald from 1944 to 1945 and illustration under for Karl-Erik Forsberg. He took study trips to Southern Europe and North Africa. Piehl painted abstract nature-inspired expressionist and figurative works with fresh and varied colour. He exhibited widely - select exhibitions include shows along with artists ÅW Andersson and S Walerius at Eskilstuna Art Museum. He participated in the National Museum's exhibition ‘Unga tecknare’ (Young Artists) 1950 and 1951, Liljevalch's Stockholm Salon and in several group exhibitions in Strängnäs. As an illustrator, is work appeared in ‘Aftonbladet’ and ‘All världens berättare’.

Among his public works are pieces for Kungsholmen's educational institution in Stockholm and Långbro Hospital.
Examples of Piehl’s work is held at the National Museum in Stockholm and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.

Piehl passed away in 2000.
