artist biography
Stig Arne Ragnar Aspelin was born 28 May 1911 in Helsingborg. He was a Swedish artist.

Aspelin began working as an advertising illustrator and professional lithographer before studying art at the Skånska målarskolan in Malmö in 1930. He took private study trips to Germany and France.

Aspelin made his debut in an exhibition with Skånes konstförening (art association) in 1935 and then regularly had work in the association's autumn exhibitions and in various group exhibitions in the countryside. Alongside with Gustaf Sjöö, he exhibited at Färg och Form in Stockholm in 1938, and with Gunnar Ekdahl in Ystad in 1948.  He had numerous solo exhibitions throughout his career including ones in Malmö 1937, 1943, 1947, 1948 and 1949 and in Ystad 1942.

He painted still lifes, figure compositions, portraits, street scenes and landscape paintings in oil, watercolour or tempera.  As an illustrator, he illustrated L Larsson's Röd lyckta (Red Happiness) in 1950. He created stage decorations for Södra teatern Theatre in Malmö in 1950 and 51. Aspelin is represented at th3 Malmö Museum and Ystad Art Museum.

He passed away at the age of 79 on 8 September, 1990 in Limhamn, Malmö.
