artist biography
Hilding Oskar Eklund was born on December 14, 1909 in the Northern Swedish city of Alby, Medelpad. He was a painter, print maker and sculptor.

Eklund studied under the Swedish artist and designer Edvin Ollers at the Konstfack (Swedish State University of Art, Design and Crafts) in Stockholm. He took private study trips to France and Holland.

He painted painted small abstract works on paper in gouache. He also produced woodcuts. As a sculptor Eklund in multiple mediums including bronze, concrete and wood.

In 2011 Eklund was included in a group exhibition of works from the Sundsvall Museum's collections alongside Helmer Osslund (1866-1938), Sigrid Hjertén (1885-1948), Leander Engström (1886-1927), Sune Blomqvist (1919-1989), Olle Mattsson (1904-1976) and Kalle Hedberg (1894-1959).

Among his public works is a large wooden sculpture in Sundsvall titled 'Ether Messenger' (Eterns Budbärare).

Examples of Eklund’s work are held in the collections of Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Sundsvall Museum and Västerbotten Museum.

He passed away at the age of 89 on January 12, 1999 in Täby.
