artist biography
Fredrik (Fred) William Hultén was born March 13, 1919 in Malmö. He was a Swedish artist.

Hultén studied at the Skanska malarskolan (painting school) in Malmö. In 1951 he studied for a year in Paris with André Lhote and the following year took a private study trip to Spain.

He first started exhibiting with the Skänes konstförening (Art Association) in Malmõ beginning in 1949 and through the 1950s and 1960s. He exhibited alongside Eve Eriksson, Hans Billgren and Fred Åberg at Konstnärscentrum in Malmö in 1977. Best known for his stylised still lifes, portraits and landscapes predominantly in oil but he also painted in watercolour. His work become increasingly abstract during the 1960s.  

He is the father of artist Bo Hultén (born 1945).

Hultén passed away in 1980.
