Hans Gerhard Sørensen was a Norwegian artist, draftsman and illustrator born 7 January, 1923 in Stokke.
Sørensen studied to be a book illustrator at the Kunstindustriskolen from 1945 to 1948 and then at the Statens kunstakademi (Norwegian Academy of Fine Arts) from 1948 to 1950. He is best known for his imaginative and popular woodcuts.
Sørensen illustrated numerous books during his career including Olav Duun's Man and the Powers (1957), Jonas Lies Troll (1958), Petter Dass Nordlands trumpet (1962), several books by Hans Henrik Holm, Aasmund Brynildsen's Hudø (1974 ), Harald Sverdrup’s Gokstadskipet (1982) and Bjørnstärn Bjørnson’s Ord (1982).
Sørensen pass away on 1 June 1999 aged 76.
