artist biography
Vilho Olavi Haarala was born on 20 September, 1925 in Porvoo. He was a Finnish painter and print maker
Haarala studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1948 to 1949 and at the School of the Finnish Academy of Arts from 1950 to 1954. He also took Aukusti Tuhka's graphic arts course from 1954 to 1955.
Haarala participated in the Nuorten näyttelyyn in 1955 and the Suomen Taiteilijain näyttelyyn (Finnish Artists Exhibition) in 1956. Beginning in the late 1950s, he participated in several international exhibitions in the Nordic countries, England, West Germany and the United States. Olavi Haarala's 25th anniversary artist exhibition was held at the Lahti Art Museum in 1977. He was a member of the Bronda Vintti artist group.
He passed away on 25 June, 1978 in Lahti.
