artist biography
Hans Valter Sundberg was born February 12, 1922 in Stockholm. He was a Swedish painter.
Sundberg studied in Stockholm at the Tekniska skolan (Technical School) from 1940 to 1942, followed by study at Otte Sköld’s painting school from 1945 to 1946. In 1948 he spent a year as studio assistant to graphic designer and typographer Akke Kumilen. He took study trips to Germany, France and Spain.
His first solo exhibition was in 1947 at at Galerie Acté in Stockholm. This debut show was followed exhibitions at Galerie Moderne, Sturegalleriet and Galerie Bleue. He participated in numerous group shows including the exhibition Aspect 61 which was shown at Liljevalch's konsthall in 1961 and in group exhibitions on Bornholm. Sundberg worked with oil, lacquer, pastel and gouache and is best known for his abstract works and portraits.
Sundberg is represented in a number public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the National Museum in Stockholm and the the Institut Tessin in Paris .
Sundberg died in 2004, aged 82.
