artist bio
Gunnar Wilhelm Hållander, born on April 21, 1915 in Örnsköldsvik was a Swedish painter and graphic artist .

Hållander studied for a short time at Otte Sköld's painting school in Stockholm in 1941 but was cut short due to his father’s death. Apart from this study he was largely self-taught as an artist. A scholarship from the Örnsköldsvik Art Association 1950 lead him to Paris, Madrid and Lisbon where he was given the opportunity to study the works of the great masters. In 1945 he had his debut solo show in Örnsköldsvik. In addition to solo shows he participated in various group exhibitions throughout his career in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Gävle and  Norrland. He is best known for his still lifes and abstract works in oils as well as his colour woodcuts.

Hållander is represented in public collections including both the National Museum and Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Sundsvall Museum and the Institut Tessinin in Paris.

Hållander passed away in 1980 aged 75.
