artist biography
Kurt Ullberger was born in Visby on 18th January 1919 in Visby. He was a Swedish painter and illustrator.
Ullberger studied at Edvin Ollers målarskolan. He painted and worked mainly with landscapes from Gotland in a semi-cubic style. He was chairman of the Arts Club in Stockholm from 1960 to 1966 and vice chairman and chairman of the KRO (Konstnärernas Riksorganisation - Artists' Association) from 1958 to 1964.
Ullberger's first solo show was in 1946 in Stockholm and he exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions through his career. He painted a number of public art pieces including ones in Visby, Hemse, Burgsvik, Upplands Väsby, Tensta, LO School Hasseludden and Mariestad's Theatre.
Examples of his work are held in the National Museum and Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art) in Stockholm, Norrköping Art Museum, Borås Art Museum, Eskilstuna Art Museum and the Karlstad Museum.
Kurt Ullberger passed away aged 90 in Stockholm on 18th April 2008.
