artist biography
Gustav Adolf Johansson was born on 6 November, 1912 in Askersund. He was a Swedish painter and print maker.

Johansson moved Borås in 1936 and initially worked as a house painter, but his great passion was art. In the early 1950s he studied at the ABC-skolan in Stockholm where he received a Paris scholarship that led to studies at the Académie Julian in Paris. 

His debut exhibition was at the Borås Art Museum in 1944, and subsequently over the years had another 11 exhibitions there. He exhibited extensively over his career participating in 80 exhibitions. He was a member of the Graphic Society in Stockholm, as well as the Grafik's House in Mariestad. Johansson painted architectural scenes, landscapes, still lifes and portraits in oil and as a pirint maker primarily produced dry needle etchings.

Examples of Johansson’s work are held in numerous  collections around Sweden including works at the National Museum in Stockholm, Värmland Museum, Borås Art Museum, State Art Council, Graphic House, Örebro, Karlstad Värmland Museum and Central Station Art Collection, and in several municipalities in Sweden.

He passed away in 2011. A memorial exhibition with Johansson's art was shown at Ålgården in Borås in 2012.
