artist biography
Nils Olof (Olle) Langert was born on 11 June 1924 in Gothenburg.. He was a Swedish painter, sculptor and print maker.
Langert studied at Valands (Valand School of Fine Arts) from 1945 to 1947. He took private study trips toThe Netherlands and Italy in 1947, France in 1948–1949 and Denmark in 1949–1950.
He exhibited in solo and group shows. Select shows include joint ones with B. I. Fröberg and A. T. Siethoff at Gummesons konstgalleri in Stockholm in 1953, exhibitions Unga tecknare at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. and in group exhibitions in Gothenburg.
He created a number of public artworks including monumental works for public spaces and buildings of the municipality of Gothenburg.
Langert is best known for his broad, freely handled landscape studies, still life and figurative compositions.
Art critic Martin Strömberg wrote in Stockholms-Tidningen (25 October 1953):
"His most successful works are a series of landscapes from Tjörn, which, despite their sketch-like character, convey a powerful impression of the immediacy of the vegetation and the atmosphere. In the painting ‘Woman in a Doorway’, he has achieved a clear and forceful effect of light."
He was a member of the Swedish Artists' National Organization (Konstnärernas riksorganisation) and the Gothenburg Artists' Club (Göteborgs konstnärsklubb).
Examples of his work are held in the collections of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, Borås Museum, Malmö Museum, Rønne (Denmark) and the Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany.
Langert passed away on 21 December, 2016.
