artist biography
Carl Fritiof Vaste Luthander was born November 1, 1879 in Motala. He was a Swedish painter.
Luthander studied with painter, art critic and museum curator Richard Bergh (1858-1918) and at the Valand Art School in Gothenburg. He took private study trips to France, Italy and Spain. His debut exhibition was in 1909 alongside with Mollie Faustman, Gösta Törneqvist and Frans Timén. Luthander is best known for his landscape paintings in oil with Stockholm as a central theme.
He painted executed decorations for Strindberg's Crown Bride . Examples are his work are held in the collections of the the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Östergötland County Museum, Linköping Museum, Hälsingland Museum, Norrköping Art Museum and the Östersund Museum.
Luthander passed away on October 30, 1967 in Högalid, Stockholm. He is buried in the Sandsborg cemetery.
