artist biography
Edvin Wilhelm Henning was a Swedish painter and sculptor born 23 May, 1899 in Stockholm.

Henning studied at the Konstakademien (Academy of Fine Arts) in Stockholm in 1921 and 1922, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He took study trips to North and South America.

Initially he worked as a sculptor and had his debuted solo exhibition at Fortuna Konsthandel in Stockholm, around 1922. He exhibited in group shows including Sveriges Allmänna Konstförenings (Sweden's General Art Association) exhibitions at Liljevalch's art gallery in Stockholm. Henning did not start exhibiting his paintings until 1940. Henning is best known for his painted street scenes from his hometown of Gothenburg, often in small scale, as well as nature scenes and abstract compositions.

He is represented in the collection fo the Moderna Museet in Stockholm with a painting and a sculpture.

Henning died on July 13, 1955 in Gothenburg, aged 56.
