artist biography
Stig Sixten Sellén, born January 2, 1924 in Stockholm, was a Swedish painter, graphic artist and sculptor.
Sellén began painting in 1946 and studied at the Fetcós painting school in Stockholm from 1950 to 1952 and during several study trips to Paris and Denmark. He started sculpting in 1952. His art initially was figurative, still life and landscape works, but he gradually changed to painting non-figurative compositions. He sculpted in concrete, wood, metal and plastic.
Examples of Sellén’s work are held in public collections including Norrköping Art Museum, Swedish Embassy in Hanoi, and the art collections of the Stockholm County Council collection, Solna Municipality and Östergötland County Council.
Sellén passed away in Stockholm aged 77 on August 15, 2001.
